Nickelodeon: the home of everyone’s beloved sea sponge and favorite group of toddlers. Almost every household in the world has wonderful memories of watching their iconic Nickelodeon shows. At this point, it is almost a staple channel every home should have.
Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to watch Nickelodeon. Most are forced to cut the cord in these trying times, and the ever-growing monthly cable bills do not help. Luckily, there is a solution.
Streaming services allow you to stream Nickelodeon live or on-demand for a significantly lower price. For Nickelodeon, your best options are Philo, Vidgo and Hulu + Live TV.
Keep in mind that these three streaming services are different from each other. There are pros and cons and features to look out for, so keep reading to learn more.
A Few Popular Streaming Services and Networks
Nickelodeon on Philo
- $25 per month
- 60+ Channels
- 7-Day Free Trial
If you have an appetite and taste for Nickelodeon while paying for significantly less than cable TV, then Philo has you covered.
With Philo, you don’t just get one Nickelodeon channel; you get four, namely Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., NickToons and TeenNick. Aside from these, you also receive plenty of family and entertainment channels, including, but not limited to, Hallmark, TV Land, TLC, MTV, Animal Planet and Discovery. And these are for only $25 a month.
Sadly, there are still caveats that come with its low price. For instance, you can count the number of news and sports channels the service has on one hand. You have Bloomberg Television, BBC America, BBC World News, Cheddar News and MotorTrend. No ESPN or Fox Sports to take note of.
Unlike Hulu + Live TV, you do not get to customize your subscription much. The only premium channels you can purchase are STARZ and EPIX ($9/mo and $6/mo, respectively), and that is it.
Additionally, you will not get any local channels with Philo. Regardless, the service is relatively inexpensive enough for some cord-cutters on a budget to pair it with a good antenna. From ABC and CBS to NBC and Fox, you can gain access to the wide selection of regional networks in your area by doing so. This will also solve Philo’s lack of news and sports channels.
Learn more about local channels and TV antennas by reading our many articles on the matter here.
Nevertheless, Philo is a budget-friendly service, giving you all the content and features you need for a reasonable price.
Philo also boasts unlimited DVR and three simultaneous streams. If you are unable to hit record on time for your favorite shows, you can always make use of the service’s 72-hour playback feature.
There is more than one device to stream Philo on. Notable ones include mobile devices, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Google Chromecast, Roku and many more.
A service full of entertainment awaits you, so grab that 7-day free trial and start your Philo subscription by clicking here.
Nickelodeon on Vidgo
- $55 per month ($10 for your first month)
- 95+ Channels
- No Free Trials
Vidgo carries two plans: English and Spanish. Only the English plan has Nickelodeon.
One of Vidgo’s strengths is the content you are getting. Its channel lineup is a colorful mixture of news, sports and entertainment channels. Alongside Nickelodeon, you can stream Nick Jr. TeenNick, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN, Fox News and much, much more.
In terms of regional programming, Vidgo gives you access to ABC and Fox-affiliated local networks.
While the $55-a-month cost of the service might be heavy for the pockets of some cord-cutters, the service makes up for it by giving new subscribers a $45 discount for their first month.
Sadly, this comes at the cost of a free trial. If you want to dip your foot on Vidgo’s waters, you still have to pay $10.
However, like Philo, Vidgo has its downsides consumers should take note of.
Firstly, Vidgo does not have a DVR. It does not even have an offline-viewing feature for mobile users. What it has, instead, is a 24-hour playback feature. Understandably, this might not be enough for many cord-cutters, especially those with a busy life.
Secondly, what you see is what you get with Vidgo. No add-ons. No purchasable feature upgrades.
But Vidgo plans to make up for these caveats in other ways. Vidgo is one of the few streaming services in the market with a Watch Party feature.
Social TV is an innovative way of fighting against the restrictions the pandemic has set upon the world. The said feature lets you watch your favorite shows while chatting with your faraway loved ones or like-minded fans.
Despite being compatible with streaming devices like Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and more, Social TV is only available to mobile users.

Nickelodeon on Hulu + Live TV
- $64.99 per month ($70.99 for Hulu no Ads + Live TV)
- 65+ Channels
- 7-Day Free Trial
You might be wondering why Hulu + Live TV costs more than Vidgo yet offers fewer channels. You can find the simplest answer to this question in Hulu’s extensive on-demand library.
Hulu is the home of award-winning original shows like Castle Rock, Little Fires Everywhere, Catch 22 and more. Nickelodeon fans might be delighted to know that Hulu carries beloved Nick shows as well. Notable series include Drake & Josh, Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, The Dude Perfect Show and Paradise Run.
But Hulu + Live TV is not limited to on-demand streaming. As its name suggests, it also has live TV channels—more than 65 of them, in fact. This includes, but is not limited to, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN, Paramount Network and CNN.
Aside from these, the service also has plenty of local channels from ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS.
Hulu + Live TV’s DVR comes with 50 hours of storage. Unlike the previous two streaming services, you can upgrade this feature to 200 hours for $9.99 a month.
Additionally, you can purchase an upgrade to watch on multiple screens at a time for the same price. The base subscription of Hulu + Live TV only comes with two simultaneous streams.
You can get both for a reduced price by purchasing the Enhanced Cloud DVR + Unlimited Screens bundle, which costs $14.99 a month.
If you want your subscription to have more than 65 channels, you can get premium channels. Listed below are the extras you can purchase:
- Español Add-on – $4.99/mo (CNN en Español, Discovery en Español, NBC Universo, etc.)
- Entertainment Add-on – $7.99/mo (CNBC World, Cooking Channel, Discovery Life, etc.)
- STARZ – $8.99/mo
- Cinemax – $9.99/mo
- SHOWTIME – $10.99/mo
- HBO Max – $14.99/mo
Keep in mind that the $64.99 option still comes with ad breaks. To have your viewing experience uninterrupted, you can subscribe to the $70.99 no-ads option instead.
There are multiple devices compatible with Hulu + Live TV, namely Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, gaming consoles, mobile devices, web browsers and more.

Can I Watch Nickelodeon on Amazon Prime?
Yes, you can, but you might want to ready your wallet. While there are some Nickelodeon shows you can immediately watch on Amazon Prime after subscribing, some of the channel’s best shows are locked behind a paywall.
Take The Fairly OddParents, for example. Its seventh season costs $1.99 per episode. Volume 1 of Are You Afraid of the Dark? costs the same, with an option to buy the whole season for $6.99. Take note: These are only in standard definition. At the time of writing, you cannot purchase a higher-quality version of these series.
There are still shows in high-definition, but they cost more. For instance, Henry Danger costs $4.99 per episode and $19.99 per season.
Nevertheless, Amazon Prime is still a strong choice for those who want to watch Nickelodeon shows on-demand and receive prime benefits.
If you do not see yourself making use of Amazon’s Prime benefits such as free two-day shipping and music and video streaming, you can purchase Amazon Video for $8.99 a month. In comparison, Amazon Prime is regularly priced at $12.99 a month or $119 a year.

Is Nickelodeon Free on Roku?
Like any other channel-dedicated app on Roku, the Nickelodeon app is free for any user to download and enjoy. Simply go to your device’s app store, search Nickelodeon and press “Add Channel.”
However, you still need to activate the app. To do so, follow these steps:
- From the Nickelodeon app, go to “Settings” and choose your TV Provider to generate an activation code
- Visit the Nickelodeon activation website from a web browser
- Enter the activation code on your screen and log in with your TV Provider credentials
Is Nickelodeon on Netflix?
There are multiple Nickelodeon shows to enjoy on Netflix. See below for the list of shows:
- Seasons 6 and 7 of SpongeBob SquarePants
- The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
- The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run
- Seasons 1 and 2 of Sam & Cat
- Seasons 1 and 2 of The Loud House
- The Loud House Movie
- Seasons 1 to 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender
Sadly, if you are yearning to watch new episodes of certain Nickelodeon shows on Netflix as they premiere, you are out of luck. Netflix can only stream particular seasons or episodes according to their contract.
There is also no way of catching Nickelodeon live since Netflix is purely an on-demand streaming service.
Nevertheless, with Netflix, you can get hours upon hours of content with their numerous shows, movies and documentaries.
Netflix’s cheapest plan costs $8.99 a month and allows you to stream in standard-definition quality on a single device. However, the standard and premium plans improve upon this. The standard package offers high-definition streaming and two simultaneous streams for $13.99 a month. The premium package allows 4K+HDR streaming and four concurrent streams for $17.99 a month.
With its mainstream popularity, you can stream Netflix almost anywhere. You can stream it on Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, mobile devices, gaming consoles, Smart TVs and much, much more.
You cannot check Netflix out before fully committing to it since it does not come with a free trial.

Nickelodeon Service Comparison Table
High monthly cable bills should not dictate the entertainment we consume in our free time.
While you can still be creative and couple Philo with another subscription to remedy its issues, you cannot do the same with Vidgo. Thankfully, Vidgo’s channel lineup is already filled to the brim.
Hulu + Live TV is the opposite of the two. It costs more at $64.99 a month, but Hulu’s on-demand library, alongside 65+ channels, makes it worth the price.
If you just want to watch a few Nickelodeon shows, you can opt for on-demand streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix and the Nickelodeon app.
A home feels incomplete without Nickelodeon’s staple Saturday morning cartoons, so why not change this by signing up for the streaming services we mentioned above.
