As the home of iconic shows like The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, Mad Men and Killing Eve, AMC is a vital channel for those who love watching TV shows in their free time. However, cable is as expensive as eight to ten movie tickets, and as the pandemic persists, cable prices continue to grow. Thankfully, there are other options to watch AMC without cable.

Streaming services like Philo, Sling TV and YouTube TV offer some of the best alternatives to cable. All you need is an internet connection and a streaming device to fully utilize their features.

There are plenty of similarities and differences to each service, so keep on reading to find out which one is right for you.

Is AMC on Philo?

  • $20 per month; $25 a month (Starts on June 8, 2021)
  • 60+ Channels
  • 7-Day Free Trial

At the time of writing, Philo starts at $20 per month. However, by the 8th of June, Philo will experience a significant price hike—from $20 to $25 per month. Philo has not increased its price since its launch back in 2017.

Nevertheless, it is only a $5 increase, and the service balances this through its unlimited DVR storage.

At the moment, you can only keep your recordings for up to 30 days before they are automatically deleted. But to offset the price increase, you will be able to save them for a year.

The storage may be unlimited, but there are still shows and channels you cannot record. To remedy this, Philo suggests utilizing its 72-hour playback feature.

Even with its price hike, Philo is your cheapest option to watch AMC without cable. With Philo, you get unlimited DVR, more than 60 channels, three simultaneous streams and an impressive on-demand library.

Philo’s on-demand library carries new and old episodes from the channels in its lineup. Moreover, Philo offers on-demand movies for rent, ranging from $2.99 to $4.99.

A caveat with Philo is lack of channel diversity. Philo does not offer premium channels aside from EPIX ($6/mo) and STARZ ($9/mo). Plus, the service’s basic lineup consists mostly of entertainment and lifestyle networks. You will not see any dedicated live sports channels aside from MotorTrend.

Local news and sports broadcasts are also not included. This is one way Philo keeps its price low.

You can work around this issue by coupling the service with a good TV antenna. You can learn more about TV antennas and local networks, tackling the subject here.

Philo is supported by most streaming devices like Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Google Chromecast, mobile devices and more.

Philo offers a 7-day free trial, so click here to sign up and test the service.

Can You Watch AMC on Sling Blue?

  • $35 per month ($10 for your first month)
  • 40+ Channels
  • 3-Day Free Trial

Sling TV offers two basic plans—Sling Blue and Sling Orange. However, Sling Blue offers more entertainment channels similar to AMC.

With Sling Blue, you get some of the best news and entertainment networks available in the market. Notable channels include A&E, CCNN, Discovery, BET, TBS, TLC and AMC. Unfortunately, Disney-owned networks like ESPN are unavailable.

Sadly, you will only get local broadcasts from NBC and Fox local networks. However, if you prepay for two months of Sling, you will receive a free AirTV Mini streaming device. This HD antenna allows you to watch a large selection of local networks from ABC, CBS and more.

The only sports network you will receive from Sling Blue’s basic lineup is Fox Sports 1. To watch live events from other sports networks, you will have to purchase one of Sling Blue’s numerous channel add-ons. These add-ons cost extra and range from $6 to $11, with the most expensive being the Sports Extra add-on.

See the table for the list of available add-ons:

Sling Blue ExtrasPriceChannels Offered

Sling Blue Extras

If you see yourself watching content from the Lifestyle Extra, Kids Extra, Comedy Extra and News Extra add-ons, you can purchase the 4 Extras Deal. This costs an additional $13 a month.

But you can also opt for the Total TV Deal, which gives you all seven extras and Cloud DVR Plus for an extra $21 a month.

In terms of DVR storage, Sling TV is lacking behind Philo and YouTube TV. The service only offers 50 hours of DVR in its basic plans. You need to purchase the Cloud DVR Plus add-on with the Total TV Deal or separately for $5 a month to increase the storage size to 200 hours.

Keep in mind, like Philo, some shows and channels are also unavailable for recording.

Three simultaneous streams are allowed. The service is compatible with most streaming devices, including web browsers, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and more.

Sling TV is regularly priced at $35 a month. New subscribers will enjoy the first month of their subscription for a significantly reduced price of $10 a month.

AMC on YouTube TV

  • $64.99 per month ($54.99 for your first three months)
  • 85+ Channels
  • 7-Day Free Trial

YouTube TV isn’t cheap. It is one of the most expensive streaming services in the market, but it is still less than cable TV.

For $64.99 a month, the service offers subscribers over 85 news, sports and entertainment channels. Not only do you get your money’s worth with the number of high-quality networks, but you also gain access to YouTube TV’s on-demand library, Originals, unlimited cloud DVR storage and local broadcasts from ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.

At the moment, YouTube TV is running a promo where you can sign up for $10 less for your first three months. The promotional price still almost cost as much as Philo and Sling TV’s prices combined, but the features within the service make it worth it.

YouTube TV also has premium channels you can purchase. These networks range from $3 to $40 a month, depending on the content. For the list of add-ons, check out the list below:

  • CuriosityStream – $3/mo
  • ALLBLK – $5/mo
  • Acorn TV- $6/mo
  • EPIX – $6/mo
  • Hallmark Movies Now $6/mo
  • IFC Films Unlimited – $6/mo
  • Shudder – $6/mo
  • WE tv+ – $6/mo
  • AMC+ – $7/mo
  • Sundance Now – $7/mo
  • STARZ – $9/mo
  • Cinemax – $10/mo
  • Showtime – $11/mo
  • HBO – $15/mo
  • HBO Max – $15/mo
  • MLB.TV – $25/mo or $130/yr
  • NBA League Pass – $40/mo

Similar to Sling TV’s deals, the Entertainment Plus add-on bundles three of YouTube TV’s premium channels together for a reduced cost of $29.99 a month. These channels are HBO Max, Showtime and STARZ. If you purchase all three separately, you would have to pay $35 a month.

For those who want more sports channels outside of the basic lineup, you might find what you are looking for on the Sports Plus Premium add-on. This add-on includes the following:

  • Fox College Sports
  • Fox Soccer Plus
  • Motorsports Network
  • NFL RedZone
  • Stadium
  • TVG

Like Philo and Sling TV, YouTube TV is also available on Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, mobile devices and more. YouTube TV also only allows three simultaneous streams.

You can try YouTube TV for seven days with its free trial. However, sometimes throughout the year, YouTube TV extends this to last for fourteen days.

Is AMC Free with Amazon Prime?

AMC+ is a premium subscription service, so it is not free. However, it does come with a 7-day free trial. After the free trial, you would have to commit to the $8.99-a-month plan. But if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can get a one-month subscription for $0.99.

You can add the AMC+ channel to your Prime video subscription through their website.

Amazon Prime Video also carries episodes from The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Mad Men and more, but some require additional payment. For instance, season 10 of The Walking Dead requires you to buy each episode for $1.99. These episodes are free with AMC+.

Take note: Since Amazon Prime Video is an on-demand streaming service only, you cannot watch live or local networks on the service.

The service costs $12.99 a month or $119 a year and offers a 30-day free trial to new subscribers.

Register for an Amazon Prime Video subscription here.

What is the Difference Between AMC and AMC Plus?

AMC+ is not to be confused with AMC Premiere, which is a different premium streaming service. AMC+ bundles all of AMC Premiere and premier collections of Shudder, Sundance Now and IFC Films Unlimited. It also gives you access to popular shows from AMC, BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV. All of these comes on-demand and free with the service.

AMC+ sign-in credentials will not work on the Shudder, Sundance Now, IFC Films Unlimited and AMC individual apps.

While AMC+ may have an extensive library of shows, not every season is immediately available. Fortunately, AMC+ is constantly growing its repertoire.

AMC+ is available through Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Roku, Sling TV, YouTube TV and more.

Can I Get AMC on Hulu?

No, you cannot get the AMC channel on Hulu. The live service does not stream AMC, and the on-demand service does not have iconic shows like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. However, there are still AMC shows on Hulu. Some of these are Fear the Walking Dead, The Son, Preacher and Feed the Beast.

Hulu’s on-demand streaming service starts at $5.99 a month. Hulu + Live TV costs $64.99 a month.

Check out Hulu + Live TV here.

Does AMC Have an App?

Multiple streaming devices have the AMC app available to download through their app or channel stores. You can log in to them using your YouTube TV, Philo and Sling TV account information. Signing in allows you to watch all available content on the app.

As the pandemic continues, more people are willing to cut the cord.

Despite Philo’s price hike, it is still an inexpensive alternative to cable. You will miss out on big news and sports channels, but you can get creative and couple it with another subscription to fill the gaps Philo leaves behind.

Sling TV is also a cheap alternative. However, be wary of the add-ons. The price increases the more channels you buy.

YouTube TV is the most expensive option of the three. But at $64.99 a month, the service makes sure you get your money’s worth with all of its features and content.
